Hawaii Medicaid: Depression screening can help improve health outcomes

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Screening for Depression and Follow Up Plan (CDF) focuses on improving mental health care by ensuring that UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Hawaii members, ages 12 and older, are screened for depression during outpatient visits.

The screening must use a standardized, age-appropriate tool and be conducted either on the day of the visit or within the 14 days prior. If the screening result is positive, you’ll need to document a follow-up plan documented on the same day to help ensure appropriate care.

We encourage you to review the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) technical specifications for additional information and complete the 2025 depression screening for both adults and children members. When you complete the screening, you can help improve health outcomes for members.
